The funny, the happy, the odd. Miracle versus coincidence
March 17, 2014
One of my favorite movies of all time is "Bruce Almighty"* with Jim Carrey. That movie makes me laugh. I think, for most of us who believe in God, the theme of the movie is spot on. We can identify with it and/or see it in others. At least, I can. Plus, the movie really is funny. I think God has a sense of humor. I wonder if to Him we are like little children who, sometimes when we are bad or poubt, you just have to laugh at.
Anyway, in the beginning of the movie, Jim Carrey's character Bruce*, is struggling with his current position at his job and in his relationship and he starts just questioning God. He was doing what I call "Having a Job moment" or "acting like Job" and it's funny. It's funny because many of us do it. Ever do that? Get mad at God and yell and scream (or calmly pray) and say something foolish like "God is a mean kid with a magnifying glass."*, "Smite me, O Mighty Smiter."* LOL Unfortunately, I have. We can only hope that the real God, ,like the character in the movie says "I'm not much on Blasphemy, but that last one made me laugh".* Sometimes, I think He does laugh. Then, if we have Faith and we ask for help he points us in the right direction and/or gives us what we need.
Yesterday, I was stressed over some very real issues in my life. I broke down in tears and prayed. I sincerely prayed. Shortly thereafter, I turned on my tv to find "Bruce Almighty" had recently started. I was very happy. To me, this was a sign. I was upset and God knows I like this movie and that it makes me laugh. Plus, it has some valid points.
After that I was uplifted. I knew God was listening. Jesus was in my heart. He was there. After the movie, Joel Osteen** was coming on. Now, I'm not one to watch a TV evangelist. Every now and again, I might listen a while ( a little while) to a portion of a radio tv evangelist, but those times are very, very, few and far between.
But...something just told me to listen. I started searching the DirectTv Guide for another program to watch, but my heart was telling me mabye I should listen. So I told myself I would listen a minute and just see. Maybe it was something I needed to hear. Especially after "Bruce Almighty." So I exited the guide and listened.
Mr. Osteen's** message seemed like good one. It was basically about not letting people take your positive energy and affect your soul. It was about putting up barriers to block your soul from being distracted by negative people. It was a message I could have used in the past. At the time I wasn't sure how it related to my situation, but then I figured it out. Maybe something was coming or I needed to start using those techniques to move forward and improve my life. So I listened.
Then, today, on LinkedIn, I ran into the very same nonsense and adversity Mr. Osteen** was talking about. It seemed to be coming from someone who clearly didn't understand the ways of the Lord (I have a long way to go to...but I'm just sayin') and I was able to remember what he said and to use those techniques.
Miracle or Coincidence? I don't believe in coincidences.
